For this project, I decided to do a stop motion with my fellow classmates. I did this project with Darby, Sam, and Madison. We all helped out on coming up with the idea and with constructing our little paper man. Darby and I taped him into different positions while the Madison took pictures. We collaborated by all sharing our ideas and working together to make them come true.
I learn new techniques in the project. I have never made a stop motion so this was an interesting experience. It took a very long time and was quite frustrating. In the end, the always look pretty cool though. Retaping the paper guy was also new. Stop motions in themselves are very fascinating. To make a video by taking a ton of pictures is extraordinary. I'm also kind of a lone wolf in a sense so I guess a new technique with this project is talking to people. I tried to include myself in the conversation and actually participate. I gained some more skill with cameras and different ways to use paper. It did give me some insight on how people make art with cameras.
Something new I tried for this project was stop motions and team work. When we were making our paper man we had to think of the best way to keep him together. With the help of the teacher, we decided on using brackets so that his limbs could move freely. I wasn't so sure about that because I had never done something like this before. We picked a material and technique that I wasn't familiar with. I used to film videos as a kid, but I had never made a stop motion and I've never included a camera in making art (other than photographs.) Also, taping the paper man to the wall so take pictures each time he moved was new and very unfamiliar. We could have made a stop motion of a painting as we continued to paint it, but we chose something foreign.
Overall, this project was a new experience for me. It was out of my comfort zone the whole time, but I still found a way to enjoy it.
