During the scientific lesson, I decided to draw a turtle and a shell. I find this lesson very informative and I enjoy drawing from observation. The turtle was relatively easy to draw because of its basic shape, but the details on the shell was the hard part. I learned that scientific drawing is pretty precise, so details are a huge component of the drawing. I would say my turtle piece is mildly successful. We didn't spend much time on them through the rotation, but for a quick drawing it's pretty good. Next time, I think I would change the way I drew the shell details. I tried to focus on shapes, but the turtle's shell faded so much that it was hard to accomplish. For the shell, I was pretty successful. I tried to draw the way it curved, and for it being my first time, I did a decent job. For both of these drawing, I just used a pencil. I like using pencil though because you can erase, it can give you details, and you can shade it well. The shell was another scientific drawing, so it was around the same as the turtle. It was hard to mimic the way the shell turned though. Also, we went to the media center and worked with the IPads. I do not like drawing on the IPads. I find it much easier to draw on paper. Also, I personally think the shell paper drawing looks better than the IPad drawing. For one of our warm-ups one day, we went over different techniques such as, hatching, stiffling, etc. I found that lesson pretty interesting because you can incorporate it in bigger drawings. Stiffling takes forever, but it really does make a cool drawing. For that, we just used pen. Pens are my favorite writing utensil and I love using them, but when it comes to drawing I try to stay clear of them. You can't erase and it's a bit scary when you've spent an hour and a half and you could mess up at any moment. Overall, the past few weeks have been quite the journey and I already feel like my artistic ability has improved. |
