My theme is flowers in geometric shapes. I chose this theme for my portfolio because I wanted to combine the strict, concrete ideas of shapes with the flow and freedom of flowers. A while ago I saw a post about how people should view themselves as flowers because flowers are unique and different and people still find them beautiful. I wanted to get the idea across in my work that beauty isn't defined by strict rules and ideas. It's more about how it comes to be. The flowers bring a sense of serenity while the lines bring it together. Also, watercolors have been a very soothing medium for me over the years. Beauty is whatever people make it to be.
My pieces are hand-drawn flowers, colored with prismacolors, and glued on top of watercolored thesaurus paper. I chose this medium because I thought it was unique and I enjoy watercolors. I used shape and color from the elements of art. The overall shape of the pieces and the vibrant colors of the watercolor and flowers show that. I also used pattern from the principles of art by having my pieces all connect through their shape and thesaurus paper idea.
