What are some reasons why artists make art?
I believe that artists make art for many different reasons. To express emotions, create something, expression etc. I know a good amount of artists and the number one reason they do it is to express emotions. If they're feeling sad, they can water color or draw instead of engaging in destructive behaviors. I also think creating something awesome is a good reason. There is a satisfaction that you feel after creating a nice piece of art. Another reasons could be as simple as it is fun. Art is a great hobby to take up just for the fact that it's fun. The reason artists make art, I believe, depend solely on the artist themselves. (The watercoloring below was something I did in class when I was feeling upset. It has a calming feeling.)
What is the point of this class? What did you get out of it?
The point of this class is to share the wonderful world of art with us high schoolers. It is to teach us new techniques, materials, and knowledge about art. I actually benefited from this class. During the watercolor unit, I discovered that it was very relaxing just by the way the brush felt against the paper. I've struggled with self-destructive behaviors for a long time and so I've used watercoloring this year as a way to cope with my emotions. Also, people nowadays see art as something we do not need. They think we need math, science, etc. In a way, we do need those subjects, but we also need art. Art gives you the ability to do many things and the freedom to express yourself in a creative way unlike math. So, the point of this class is to teach children about art and how to use it to their best advantage.
Illustration Fridays have been completed almost every week this semester, do you feel this assignment helped you brainstorm for main project or helped you skill levels in any way? Why, or why not?
I found Illustration Fridays to be a very neat assignment in this class. You could create anything based off of one word and that's pretty cool. Also, you still have a lot of freedom to do as you wish. I still remember some other Illustration Fridays that some people did and they were incredible. I believe they get our brains flowing and gives us something to look forward to every Friday. I do believe that these helped my skill levels. I had to think about what material, an idea, etc. I drew most of my Illustration Fridays so I gained skill in that also. I don't think it really helped me with brainstorming for main projects, but it did help me start to think.
