For this project, I decided to use a weird medium. I think that means it would be classified as a limited material? Anyways, I decided to do a painting of the backside of a girl. For the hair, I sprinkled espresso glitter over white paint. For the gold colored sheet around her, I used a mix of gold and skin colored paint. For her underwear, I used pink paint. Lastly for the skin, I used foundation. Foundation is supposed to be my weird medium for this project.
This painting doesn't really solve many problems. I just expressed through my piece that using a strange medium can be done. I decided not to use foundation for the whole painting, because then everything would blend together as one and I don't think you would really be able to tell what it was. Some obstacles I had to overcome would probably be with not using foundation for the whole piece and the glitter. I used paint instead of glue to keep the glitter down which caused some issues. As you can see in the picture, the hair is not one big chunk of glitter as it would be in a painting. It is more like strips of glitter which I do think adds some uniqueness to the piece.
I used my own unique ideas in my art by the different mediums I used and where I chose to use them. I could've easily done the hair in a brown paint, but I decided to make it pop more with glitter. Also, for the sections I did paint I did a unique brush stroke. Instead of just doing the original back and forth, I did more of a dotted stroke. I did base my painting off of a photo that I found online. I then combined it with my own ideas to make it original. Many of the mediums I chose helped make it more of my own.
I tried a couple of things that I wasn't really sure about for this project. Instead of using glue for the glitter, I decided to use white paint. By using the paint it created the unique strips of glitter, instead of one big blob. Also, I haven't used paint in a while so trying different brush strokes and what color I wanted the paint to be made me a little nervous. I did pick a few new materials for this project that I wasn't very familiar with. I'm not very familiar with glitter or how to get it to stick to things so that was new. Like I stated before, I haven't used paint in a while either so that was also very exciting to use again.
